Everything was all set. My one-page impressive resume, together with my true copy of grades and certificates, was well-organized inside a folder. My black polo and gray slacks were lying on my bed, waiting to be worn. I already had my breakfast. So there, everything was all set for my first serious job application.

As I was inside a taxi, I read once again the text message I received two days ago: “Gud am. Dis s Lorie of Moldex, we wud lyk 2 nvite u 2 come 4 an exam & nterview on Monday(10/23/06) @ 8AM 4 d position of Technical Services Officer. D add s Moldex Bldg., Ligaya St. Cor West Ave., Q.C. tel#373-8888 loc 138. Bring resume & transcript of records. Pls reply w/ur name 2 confirm. Thanks.” I didn’t actually apply for that position. In fact, I just saw their ad from jobsdb.com and I got curious of the position, Sales Engineer. Since I am a graduating engineering student, why not try this one? So I effortlessly applied for it by just submitting my resume online. 24 hours later, I received the invitation! Wondering why TSO and not SE, I searched for their website and I was so surprised to know the job description of Technical Services Officer: GE/CE graduate knowledgeable in land surveying and titling. Hey people, I just took GE119(Property Surveying) this 1st sem with plenty of units in surveying courses. You’re inviting the perfect applicant! Back to reality, I arrived to the Moldex Building in just ten minutes. It was ten minutes before 8AM and the employees were just starting to enter their respective offices. As I was waiting outside, a girl of about 25 years old noticed that I was also there for application. She greeted me and learned…

Mr. Obnoxious

I was inside a UP-Philcoa jeepney when it started to rain. Thank God I had an umbrella coz I was all dressed up that night. I actually had an appointment and couldn’t imagine myself with rain marks on my polo and slacks. That wouldn’t be a nice sight! We were waiting at the Vinzon’s terminal for the jeepney to be filled up. I was looking at every passenger going inside when I noticed two familiar faces. One jerk and one bitch. They’re both from an engineering org but obviously, they’re not..you know, they’re definitely not in a relationship. They just can’t be..you know, errr…anyway, they sat right in front of me. They were discussing about this stupid sale and of course, I pretended I wasn’t listening. Did they recognize me? I suppose so..and it’s so easy to act as if you don’t see somebody you don’t feel like greeting.

Oh hell, what’s with these people that made me hate them anyway? Okay, let’s start with Mr. Jerk. It was Engineering Week 2005 when I assigned myself(yeah, I had no other choice coz of not-so-committed members) as our org’s event coordinator. We had this event with eight participating eng’g orgs and yes, the fools’ org was one of these. On the day of the event, it was their org versus another we’ll-die-for-EWOC org. I explained the rules…blah blah… actually I was a bit disappointed coz the players didn’t even read the mechanics of the game that I sent them days before, which meant I had to tell them everything in detail. I made it clear that it should be the event coordinator’s decision that must be followed in case of any conflict throughout the game. Okay to make it short, as expected, there was a conflict. I made a decision but the other org protested as if I took hundred points of EWOC from them. Pathetic! Then here comes Mr. Jerk who started to yell at me, together with his comrades, and said things like “How can you be so biased blah blah”. I felt so irritated and insulted. Well first of all, we knew each other. We were introduced thrice by some common friends and we became classmates in a certain ES subject. We weren't close but we were definitely okay. So I was so shocked that all of a sudden, he was yelling at me in front of other people as if I was a total stranger. I would have understood if he’d protested with a lower tone, but no! Okay, I shouted “Please, calm down. Let’s have decency.” I asked one representative each from the two orgs to resolve the problem. In less than 5 minutes, the event finished successfully. See? Nothing can be fixed if people won’t talk nicely…But then, I was still pissed off with Mr. Jerk. It has been almost a year and still, I hate him.

Uhmmm..how about Miss Bitch? What’s her story? Well it was enrollment week for 1st sem 2006-2007 when I rushed to the floors of Melchor Hall. I was so excited to sign up for grad application and I went to the reg com table to ask where to pay for the grad fee. I was told to ask Miss Bitch so I gladly approached her coz I knew we were also introduced before(same with Mr. Jerk). I smiled and asked her how much would I pay for the fee. She just raised her eyebrow and asked me where’s the grad app form. Hey, I just asked how much! Okay then she said, “Sign this first!” while handing me the form in a very bitchy manner. I stared at her for few seconds and thought “Does she have an amnesia?”. Hey bitch, we knew each other, didn’t we?

I hated them and I still hate them. Inside the UP-Philcoa jeepney, we were still pretending. When it was filled up, the fools handed out flyers for their stupid sale, saying it was extended blah blah. Honestly, I thought they wouldn’t bother to give me some coz we were pretending, right? I was amazed, that jerk invited me to come and visit their sale. Haha! Hey, nothing’s changed. You don’t expect me to accept that, do you? I thought you don’t know me? Hmm..I just stared at them..with a poker face. After like 5-7 seconds, I looked at my cellphone and checked some messages. Ouch, that really hurts, huh? Now there’s Mr. Jerk, Miss Bitch…
and Mr. Obnoxious.

This post is not meant to insult the members of the particular “org”. In fact, I have a lot of friends there.

Naughty Transformation

One fine Wednesday afternoon, I was all alone in our house…bored! After posting comments and reading threads and articles from peyups.com, I felt tired and decided to hit the disconnection button. For a minute, I wondered what to do. Didn’t wanna read my notes coz the long exams just ended(this happened two weeks before the horrible Millenio hit us). Didn’t wanna turn on the television coz didn’t wanna see the Passion de Amor casts(who loved to switch partners and after like 48 years, their story was about to end) nor the pathetic Now and Forever fools. What to do…what to do… Suddenly, something naughty came up to my mind. Sorry, it’s not what you think. Had done that early in the morning. Since we’re living in a country where almost everybody’s working in call centers, why not pretend to be like them? Just for few minutes, there was a transformation! The first fortunate caller would hear the voice of a CSR. Okay, I waited…and at last, the phone rang…

Me: Hello good afternoon!(with that thwang accent)
Caller: Hello, is Gabriel in the house? (The name she just mentioned is my older bro’s. She was obviously from a call center company. We know how they talk.)
Me: Oh, no. I’m sorry, he’s not here. He just went to the church. Maybe he’ll be back at 8pm. May I know who’s calling? Would you like to leave a message?
Caller: This is blah blah from RMH blah blah blah. Anyway, I’ll just call later. Thank you very much.
Me: You’re welcome!

Mission accomplished! My brother worked in a call center for eight months. He got tired of the job so he decided to resign. I wondered why she called my bro? She didn’t tell me anything aside from her name and the company where she’s working. I was about to go back to my couch when the phone rang. Haha, another victim, I thought!

Caller: Hello good afternoon, I was the one who called earlier.
Me: Oh, I’m sorry he isn’t here yet(of course, she just called seconds ago). Wanna get his mobile phone number?
Caller: No, it’s okay. I noticed that you speak well and I think you are really qualified to become a part of our company.
Me: (Oh yeah?) Oh, thanks. I’m flattered..
Caller: In case your are interested, you are very much welcome to apply here at RMH.
Me: Okay.. but unfortunately, I haven’t graduated yet. I’m actually an engineering student from UP Diliman(Did she ask??)..
Caller: Oh, in case you’d still be interested, just visit us at blah blah…Thank you.
Me: Okay, thanks!

Wh-what was that!
